Essential Guide

The Art of the Burn

Preserving the life of your botanical candle is all about slow, mindful burns and simple care rituals. To achieve optimal burn with wood wicks, keep them shorter—about 1/8 inch—so the flame can draw the wax and create a consistent melt pool.

Care Wisdom

  • To ensure a safe and beautiful experience, always keep your candle within sight and away from drafts, kids, and pets. Place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface and keep the wax free of trimmings. Remember to remove all decorative botanical elements before lighting for the perfect, worry-free glow.

Proper Care & Wick Upkeep

Cotton wicks: Trim to 1/4 inch before every burn to prevent soot and mushrooming.Wood wicks: Trim to about 1/8 inch before every burn so the flame can draw the wax and create a smooth, even melt pool.

Fire Bowl: First Burn Guidance

For our Fire Bowl candles with wood wicks, allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges on your first burn to set the “memory” of the candle. Before each burn, trim the wood wicks to about 1/8 inch so they light easily and create a wide, even melt pool.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

IMG_2102.jpeg
Tunneling

If wax builds up on the sides, give your candle a long burn until the entire top layer is liquid.

IMG_1703.jpeg
Sooting

Black smoke usually means the wick is too long or there’s a draft. Trim the wick and move the candle.

Weak Scent

Ensure the candle burns for at least 2 hours to release the full fragrance profile into the room.

Long-Lasting Light

Don't burn for more than 4 hours at a time to preserve the natural soy wax.

Common Inquiries

Why is my candle tunneling?

Tunneling usually occurs when the first burn was too short. Ensure your candle burns until the wax melts to the edges of the jar every time to maintain an even surface.

How often should I trim the wick?

For cotton wicks, trim to 1/4 inch before every burn. For wood wicks, trim to about 1/8 inch so they light easily and burn with a steady, even flame.

Are your fragrances safe for pets?

Yes, we use 100% vegan, phthalate-free botanical essences. However, as pets have sensitive noses, we always suggest burning candles in well-ventilated rooms.

What is 'mushrooming' on wicks?

A mushroom-like shape forms when the wick consumes wax faster than it can burn. Simply trim the carbon buildup off before relighting for a beautiful, steady flame.
